Pick to Light for pharma and cosmetics: accurate picking of small, similar items
In pharma and cosmetics, Pick to Light lights the one correct location among thousands of small, often similar-looking items and shows the quantity. Every pick is confirmed and recorded in the WMS, so it is traceable what was picked, when and by whom. Mix-ups between variants, shades or strengths become rare. We have developed our light guidance in-house since 2018.
At a glance
- Locations from 15 mm for small packs
- Every pick confirmed and recorded
- Quantity display right at the location
Similar packaging, small differences, big consequences
Medicines, supplements and cosmetics come in many variants that differ only in strength, volume or shade, with almost identical packaging. The range runs to thousands of small items in a small space. A mix-up at a pharmacy or retailer means a complaint, at worst a risk to the end customer, and manually checking every order slows the whole warehouse.

How Pick to Light improves accuracy for small items
Fine location grid
LED strips in profiles distinguish locations from 15 mm wide, so even on a densely packed shelf of small packs exactly one bin lights up.
Quantity on a display
A PUM-A module or e-ink display shows the required quantity, so staff do not count from paper and quantity errors are reduced.
Every pick on record
Confirmations reach the WMS in real time. If your WMS tracks lots by location, each pick is tied to the lot it came from.
Several store orders at once
A cart or put wall splits goods for several pharmacies or stores at once, with every put confirmed.
How it works
- 1The WMS releases orders from pharmacies, drugstores or the online shop and assigns locations and lots.
- 2The location lights up on the shelf and the display shows the quantity.
- 3The picker takes and confirms the item; the system checks it was the right location.
- 4The item goes into the order tote on a cart or at the put wall.
- 5The confirmation with pick details is stored in the WMS for later tracing.
WMS and ERP integration
Lot and expiry tracking stays in your WMS or ERP; the light system receives instructions via REST API, MQTT or WebSocket and returns a confirmation for every pick. Communication runs over encrypted protocols and the API requires authentication. Data can stay in your own environment (on-premise) or in a secured cloud. For new warehouses, Logisio WMS is available.
